# Claw Sans — family specifications

Claw Sans is an original contributor sans serif for OpenClaw reading, UI and editorial headings. Its open counters, soft curves and fitted spacing give text a welcoming character while keeping information clear. The fixed logo remains separate SVG artwork.

Individual outlines may overshoot design guides. The live glyph inspector reports actual encoded bounds, sidebearings, advance and contours for the selected style. A phrase's advance includes pair kerning; it is not its visible ink width. Measurements use NFC-normalized supported characters with ligatures off.

## Why these relationships work

- **Open counters:** interior space keeps the heavier weights from feeling congested.
- **Distinct forms:** I, l and 1 carry different identifying details. Tabular figures share one width for aligned numerical information.
- **A quiet t:** its top falls between x-height and capitals. A lighter crossbar and shallow exit fit repeated letters without excessive visual activity.
- **Optical spacing:** straight, round and diagonal neighbours have different shapes of whitespace. Sidebearings establish normal rhythm; explicit kerning handles exceptions.
- **Authored emphasis:** italic contours and weight-specific fitting preserve the family character without synthetic bold or slant.

These are design reasons, not a universal readability claim. The final family was reviewed in enlarged glyph/word sheets and native light/dark reading proofs. Its audit covers all 812,250 supported ordered pair instances across the ten styles, plus a 939-fragment corpus and 148,720 raster frames. The technical archive documents methods and limitations.

## Web roles

Use Regular for body copy (17px equivalent, line height 1.65) and Medium for compact controls. Large headings can use Light; avoid it for small controls. Page titles use Medium, 40–64px equivalent on wide screens and 34–44px on mobile, line height 1.16. Use rem, preserve user text enlargement, and avoid tightly tracked body copy. Load the actual weights/postures you use, set `font-synthesis: none`, and supply system fallbacks. There are no variable or optical-size axes and no arbitrary combining-mark positioning. The supported precomposed Latin repertoire is not global script coverage. Validate real words, accessibility and target-device rendering before native adoption.
